I’ve used these before. I prefer to hardwire my radar detectors. I can’t stand the coiled cord hanging down the dash for the cigarrette lighter. This a cheap solution.
Great product exactly what I needed. Got rid of the coiled plug and hardwired my beltronics v940 to the left of my rear view mirror. Keeps the radar out of sight and professional looking. The hardwire comes with plenty of length and has a inline fuse. Using a add a circuit from autozone I tapped into a 7.5 acc fuse and put a 2 amp fuse(just in case) in the other slot of the add a circuit fuse block. This items Achilles heel is the mount in which you use to attach it to your car’s interior. It comes with Velcro which not only looks very cheap and unsightly, but I have already had it peel off once. What would have been nice was some sort of hard-mount option. Maybe I’ll try to take it apart and see if I can attach it with a screw – still not my first choice. Escort should have thought ahead and included a clip or some other fastener for this purpose. Other than that, it works well considering it’s nothing more than a mute switch and a hard-wire for your detector.

The directwire is definetly a must buy for the escort radar setup.
Although I didnt install this myself, it is great never to have to deal with the bulky cord that hangs to your cigarette jack.
Plus it starts the radar up with the start of your vehicle and shuts down with your vehicle.

The guy below me, Norman, said exactly what I wanted to say about the product. It is a bit expensive for the simple circuitry (I should have just made one as a EE major…).
The only thing I want to note is that if you are buying this, you need to access your car’s fuse box. It’s rated at a certain current rating (I can’t remember what, I think its 10 or 15 amps), which means you need to find an open slot for it to work it…

That is called an “add-a-fuse”. It will allow you to plug that into a fuse slot, and piggyback it for your hardwire setup (this way, you don’t void any warranties). This is a less than 5 dollar buy at most hardware stores, I know pep boys has them. It’s worth it to check out your fuse box before you buy, so you can have all the components in-hand when your setting it up (which should take you 5-10 minutes, depending how you want to cleanly run the wires). If you use this device, which does what it says, I would advise also buying the optional straight-corded, direct-wire connector.
I have had clips previously that were a nightmare to reassemble if they came apart. Also if someone pulled down on the visor while the detector was still attached the clip would never be the same (loose and turning). This one is one piece,hooks onto the visor tight and is easy to attach to the detector once you figure why they put the slot in it. I’m using it on a beltronics and it fits like it was made for it. One thing though, if your going to depend on the rear feature of your detector and your visor is real soft it might cover the receiver for the rear detector.
